2023 Annual Award Ceremony and Picnic

2023 BME Annual Award Ceremony

On Friday, April 21st BME celebrated the hard work and excellence of our department and people during the 2023 Annual Award Ceremony and Picnic. Over 100 people, including BME friends and family gathered to celebrate our exceptional faculty, students and staff, and the graduating class of '23.

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony is a long standing BME tradition that acknowledges the achievements of undergraduates, graduate students, staff and faculty in the department. This year’s ceremony recognized more award winners than ever. Typically awards are given to just one individual in each category, however this year 4 awards had multiple winners. Most notably 6 undergraduates won the Senior Outstanding Scholar Award this year.

Two Chair’s Awards were given this year for Outstanding and Exceptional Contribution to BME. This special award, which is not awarded every year, recognizes above and beyond contribution to the Department of Biomedical Engineering by faculty, staff, and/or students.

Lindsay Tolchin, Senior Academic Advisor, was one of the award recipients for the amazing impact her industry mentorship program has had on students and their career progression. Cynthia Roberts, PhD, received the other Chair’s Award for her dedication and support to BME in her role as the Chair of the Honors and Awards Committee.

Picnic

After the award ceremony a picnic was held in the atrium of Fontana where activities, fun, and food were shared by all.

The picnic offered a warm meal catered by Piada, as well as a cake to celebrate Dr. Samir Ghadiali's birthday, which happened to fall on the date of our Award Ceremony and picnic.

While folks gathered in Fontana enjoying conversation and food, many took the opportunity to have some fun by engaging in activities like bracelet making, blowing bubbles, hula hooping, and coloring BME themed coloring sheets.

The spirit of the festivities was joyous and celebratory. Thank you to all who contributed to the energy of these events.

Events like our Annual Award Ceremony and Picnic are made possible because of generous gifts from individuals. If you would like to contribute to the BME Priority Fund so we can continue to hold events celebrating BME successes, please do so here.
