2020 Engineering in Healthcare: Industry and Research Symposium

On February 14th, 2020, the 5th Annual Engineering in Healthcare: Industry and Research Symposium (EHIRS) took place in the Ohio Union. EHIRS was organized and hosted by the BMES Chapters of Ohio State University (OSU), Wright State University (WSU), and University of Cincinnati (UC). This year there were well over 100 students who attended the event, which was highlighted by keynote speaker Maria Bennett, the CEO and Founder of SPR Therapeutics who discussed her position as an Industry Leader in pain management through Peripheral Nerve Stimulation technology.

Following the keynote address, the students were exposed to the industry and research aspects of the symposium. The research aspect of the symposium was highlighted by the two platform presentations (speakers listed below), and complemented by the two poster presentation sessions, the winners of the respective categories are listed below. The industry aspect of the symposium was headlined by an industry panel and complemented by 10 companies interested solely in biomedical engineers. The companies in attendance included Atricure Inc., Cook Medical, Elite Biomedical Solutions, Lab-Ally Inc., Nanofiber Solutions, MedPace, Midmark Corporation, Optimus Prosthetics, NuVasive Manufacturing, and Enable Injections Inc.
