Congratulations to Dr. Xiaoming (Shawn) He, Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, for being named as an American Cancer Society (ACS) Research Scholar.  On March 22nd, Dr. He was recognized during a reception jointly held by the American Cancer Society and the James Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State University. He was presented during the reception with an official certificate of the honor by Dr. Michael A. Caligiuri, the JL Marakas Nationwide Insurance Enterprise Foundation Professor of Cancer Research, CEO of James Cancer Hospital & Solove Research Institute, and Director of the James Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Accompanying this honor was an ACS Research Scholar Grant of $720,000 in support of Dr. He to develop thermally responsive nanoparticles for controlled drug/gene delivery, and to further combine it with energy-based therapies for cancer treatment with much improved safety and efficacy. This is an extremely competitive (success rate < 10%) national grant from ACS for only young and promising independent investigators within six years of their first academic appointment.
